Landmarks you can see from the Little Blue Train

Departures from the Castle Garden every hour, on the hour.

1. To the left of the bus stop is Gyula Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Hungary. It was built of clay bricks and is over 600 years old. In the second half of the 16th century it was one of the three strongest castles in the country, along with Eger and Szigetvár. The castle is now a museum with 24 exhibition rooms. Every year, the Castle Theatre of Gyula is built in the courtyard of the castle, and the Lake Stage is built on the adjacent Boating Pond.

2. To the right of the train stop, there is a park enclosed by the impressive Almásy Mansion. The foundations of the beautifully restored building were laid after the Turkish conquest, and during the Baroque period it was extended into a beautiful noble residence, with a riding school, park and conservatory.

3. From the next train stop you can see the Castle Baths. The baths have summer and winter entrances. The Gyula Castle Baths have been open since 1959 and offer a wide variety of activities for all ages. The complex includes swimming pools, thermal pools, adventure pools and the AquaPalota, all in a beautiful park with huge, old trees providing the shade you need on a scorching hot day. The 4-star rated spa and wellness centre is one of Gyula's biggest attractions.

4. The building to the right of the Castle Baths is the Hunguest Hotel. It is directly connected to the Castle Baths, which means that guests can enter the complex through a closed passage.

5. The rest of the Little Blue Train's route winds through the beautiful streets of Gyula, passing by pretty buildings, parks, a lovely line of hotels and the beautiful natural environment of the Csigakert (Whorl Garden) along the banks of the Living Water Canal.

6. The train goes through several small streets, passes by a roundabout and takes you to Part Street via a little bridge. At the end of Part Street, the train continues along Wesselényi Street, Mátyás Király Street and then Semmelweis Street, where you will see the Hospital.

7. The train turns right into Szent István Street and heads for the open-air marketplace. Continuing from the market, you will see the Music School and arrive at a remarkable neighbourhood of Gyula, the so-called Németváros (German Town).

8. The next landmark the train passes by is Apor Square, where you see the Ferenc Erkel Memorial House, the famous composer’s birthplace. Continuing along the road, you will see the Sports Hall and then the beautiful Kohán Gallery, which is situated next to the Community Centre.

9. After passing by the points of interest in Kossuth Square, the train goes down Jókai Street, the Ladics House and then the famous Hundred-Year-Old Cukrászda (Confectionery) with its cosy patio. The downtown Catholic Church is across from the confectionery.

10. After touching the last few sights on the route, including Erkel, Petőfi- and Harruckern squares, the train returns via Kossuth Street to Szent Miklós Park in the Castle Garden.
