The church of the Lutheran Congregation of Gyula is located in Béke sugárút, one of the most frequented parts of the town. It is a single-towered church with a pediment and Doric columns. It was built in the Eclectic style between 1927 and 1938, based on the plans of Gedeon Gerlóczi. The Lutheran Church was inaugurated on December 18, 1927, after the First World War and the flood of 1925. The construction of the building was financed through a nationwide fundraising initiative. The tower of the church was completed 10 years after the inauguration, and the house of prayer was not finished until the autumn of 1947. The Lutheran Church of Gyula has been remodelled on several occasions, first on its 25th anniversary, then in the late 1970s, and most recently after the turn of the millenium.
