Máriás House

The Máriás House is known to be among the oldest residential buildings in Gyula. The house was built in 1770 in the Baroque style and it was miraculously spared from a devastating fire in 1801. It was named after the statue of the Virgin Mary, which was in the niche on the facade overlooking Apor Vilmos Square. Today, the original statue is on display in the exhibition area of the building. The Máriás House is a museum, community centre and also the cultural centre of the self-government of the German minority in Gyula.
