On April 1, 2023, the Gyula Folk Art Memorial Room was opened in the Gyulavári Mansion. The room is a valuable addition to the folk art items of the Southern Great Plains region exhibited there. The permanent exhibition presents the handicraft traditions, folk heritage and treasures of folk art from Gyula and its surroundings. For example, it introduces us to the world of Békés County embroidery, the Kalotaszeg needlework, and hand-woven wool and cotton rugs. The collection showcases a cross-section of the decorative arts of Hungary, Transylvania and Székelyföld. It also gives you an insight into the history of woven items created in Gyula and the work of folk craftsmen that are engaged in the preservation and revival of the culure of weaving. The exhibition of more than 100 artisanal products is a legacy of the former Gyula Folk Art and Household Handicrafts Cooperative and showcases the finest pieces of local folk art.
The Memorial Room can be visited during the opening hours of the Gyulavári Mansion.
